We exist to serve the horse community.
In the sixty years the The Tack Box, Inc. has been in business, there have been many changes to the retail landscape but one thing has stayed the same; our commitment to offer honest, knowledgeable customer service and quality products to all of those who love the horse.
Where we started…
John B. “Chub” Lee started The Tack Box, Inc. in 1947 selling tack and leather goods from the back of a black Chevrolet panel truck. It was a familiar site at racing and breeding farms from Middleburg, VA, Charlottesville, VA all the way to Charlestown, WV. Three years later, Chub was joined by saddler Bill Ballard and The Tack Box, Inc. moved to its first physical location, a garage sized space in Middleburg, VA.
As it grew in size and popularity during the early 1970s, Chub expanded into clothing, apparel and more tack repair requiring a second, larger location. As saddler Ballard was retiring, apprentice Chuck Pinnell became an important addition in the repair department and The Tack Box, Inc. became a staple in the Middleburg horse community.
In 1985 The Tack Box, Inc. moved to its present home a 7 West Federal Street. As Chub’s role began to fade, his daughter Berk took the reins.
